SLS GB
Polzeath Surf Life Saving Club is affiliated to Surf Life Saving Great Britain and Surf Life Saving Cornwall. There are 57 Surf Lifesaving Clubs in the association, which is split into 5 regions - Cornwall, Devon, Southern, Wales and Scotland. In 50 years, our members have rescued from drowning more than 20,000 people who might not otherwise be alive today were it not for the dedication of the volunteer members of our Surf Life Saving Clubs. This included rescues from your own beach, by club members.Competitions
SLS GB is itself affiliated to International Life Saving and members from Polzeath have competed all over the world in Lifesaving competitions. Several members of the club have had the honour of representing their county and their country in competition, The Club itself competes at regional, national and international level in Nipper, Junior, Senior and Masters competitions. Full members have the opportunity to visit other surf clubs and compete at both regional and national level.Nippers
If you’re thinking of introducing your child to surf life saving, then nippers is the best place to do it. Nippers is open to children from the age of 7 through to 12 years old. Surf life saving is an amazing activity for growing a child’s confidence, knowledge and skills in the beach environment.

They are also able to participate in board paddling, surfing, swimming, running, wading and other fun activities and games. Practising these skills allows children to compete in club, regional and national surf lifesaving events representing the club.
We particularly welcome parents. This is a family orientated club, and its success is foundered on parents getting involved. If they want, we will train parents in the same life saving skills developed by the nippers, and taking part will improve the parents fitness levels.
The sport of Life Saving is growing rapidly and Nippers are encouraged to come together and test their Life Saving skills in challenging conditions. Competition increases skill levels, which in turn increases the effectiveness of the Life Saver in carrying out rescues. Surf Life Saving Cornwall encourages Nipper Carnivals where you can have fun, gain success and learn from others in a team environment.
Juniors
Juniors can expect to develop skills learned in Nippers, or if they are new to surf lifesaving, they can quickly catch up and earn awards that enable them to compete if they wish to. They will also learn to use the sea safely and develop all the skills necessary to save lives or even work towards qualifying as a lifeguard.
Seniors/Masters.
Senior members of 16 and above can have either full or social membership. Those taking full membership can expect to be able to use club equipment, if qualified, and be insured. They are also able to compete in regional, national and international competition. They may take qualifications to allow them to compete and can also take a range of qualifications in beach safety and rescue if they wish
